Michele Allen, Director

Michele attended California State University at Los Angeles and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Masters in Special Education for Visually handicapped. She also holds Teaching Credentials in Physical Education and Orthopedically handicapped.

She has been a professional dancer including Can Can Dancer at the Calico Saloon at Knotts Berry Farm and was the featured baton twirler for the Los Angeles Rams. Being a member of Screen Actors Guild gave her the opportunity to dance and twirl in a variety of feature films such as Mary Poppins, Son of Flubber and The Music Man.

Michele was the Advisor and Coach at Claremont High School for over twenty years where she instructed Dance, Colorguard, Majorettes, Banners, Rifles, Cheer, and Song. During that time, she produced and directed two full weekends each year of competition for the above groups. She has been a member and adjudicator of CADTD and SCSBOA for many years. In 2000, upon retiring from teaching and coaching, she became the owner of what was, at that time, Southwestern Specialty Clinics, a company that produced weekender competitions that included teaching clinics for the variety of dance and cheer skills. In 2007 the executive board comprised of her daughter, Roberta, and Dr. Gary Iida, former band director for Claremont High School, changed the name to NRG (pronounced energy) Dance and Cheer. This company currently produces competitions for elementary, Junior High and High School students at Knotts Berry Farm, Sea World, Hawaii, and local gymnasiums. Additional changes for the company included adopting the CADTD Rules and Regulations, Safety Rules, the score sheets, and a panel of 3 judges and a Penalty judge for each lane at the events.

Michele and her mature staff, believe that competition and fun…should be all in one and provides an atmosphere of family involvement and a performance experience that creates memories that last a lifetime!

She was a member of the USC TMB as a silk for 3 years, and then as a TA for 2 more years. Performing in the 1984 Olympic Opening Ceremonies and then in front of Past President Ronald Reagan were incredible experiences. she is married and the mother of 4 children.

Dr. Gary Iida, Owner

I am very proud to be affiliated with and have ownership in NRG Dance and Cheer! Because of my deep interest and past experience in working with and judging dance and cheer teams I took the opportunity to join with my colleague, Michele Allen, when she bought the company in 2000. I have 3 children and 5 grandchildren that enjoy the events that we sponsor.
